I personally like that it’s got the touch of blue with the black dial which increases the versatility. I also like that the white gold looks like stainless steel to the masses. If Rolex had to drop the depth rating of the Submariner to accommodate for a gold case, I can understand being angry, but the watch is designed to perform the exact same way. You get the same diving capabilities, same movement, just with a more expensive metal.
I own a steel, black dial Submariner date and a new white Explorer ii. I’m tying to figure out what my next watch will be and the only one that I really feel excited about is the black dial Explorer ii.

I personally don't like to mod with after market parts, but when the gold dial on my 16213 became boring I had my watchmaker install a black dial on it - and it saved me the cost of sale, hassle of a new purchase and afforded me the opportunity to change back to the gold dial when I so felt like it.
